Meet mama2mama

Hello, my name is Lorraine and I am a doula, photographer, birth educator, doula mentor, birth activist.

I am also a mama, daughter, sister, and friend. I was raised in Manchester but now live with my daughter, just between Bradford and Leeds.

I decided to take the leap and quit my successful career of nearly 20 years to start following my passion; supporting other mamas. It was a scary leap but I was supported by my wonderful family and friends who weren't fazed by my (very considered) change of career. So, what made me quit?

​

I became a mama.

​

A mama to a hilariously strong-willed little lady and that lead me on a journey through the joys and the never-ending tiredness of becoming a mummy.

​

My journey has had lots of amazing, heart-filling ups and some really difficult downs. I continue to learn a lot about myself as I go through this journey, like I have more patience than I realised and actually I can survive on less than my ‘must have’ eight hours’ sleep.  My body has taught me to trust and listen to it more and that duvet days are an acceptable means of survival.

But the biggest thing I realised was how fortunate I was to have such great support around me as I navigate this crazy world of parenthood.

​

I believe everyone should feel supported through their journey to become a parent, especially as the journey often has highs and lows. From pregnancy to birth, to those first few months as a new parent, all of us should feel empowered to make choices that are right for us, our bodies, and our babies.

​

My own journey taught me that although I felt supported in my pregnancy and birth, I didn’t feel empowered enough to make choices that I knew, deep down, were right for me. It is the age-old proverb, “If I knew then, what I know now…”

​

So, I’ve taken the experiences I had, the lessons I learned and the teachings I received and supported people on their own journeys. From providing information for planning a gentle c-section, to providing space, time and compassion when dealing with loss.

It’s my role to share what I know, with you, now.
